Totally Gnarly Barbies

Cyndi Lauper gets Barbie-ized – so what’s the hold up on these other Ladies of the ’80s?

Earlier this month, those fine folks at Mattel finally paid tribute to the original girl that just wants to have fun with a special edition commemorative Cyndi Lauper Barbie, in which the ’80s staple rocks her iconic look from the aforementioned song’s music video. And while there’s no question this current contestant on NBC’s The Apprentice deserves the plastic praise (joining fellow be-Barbied ’80s rockers Joan Jett and Debbie Harry), it got us thinking—and writing—about which other Reagan-era beauties warrant some Barbie love . . .

STEVIE NICKS
Barbie designers would have to worry that Nicks would cast some weird witchcraft joo-joo on them, but it’s worth the risk to recreate Nicks’ trademark flowing gowns.

TAWNY KITAEN
The woman that cast a million male fantasies taking place on the hood of a Jaguar could straddle the line between hardcore Barbie collectors and dudes who still have mullets, denim jackets and collections of “vintage” hair band concert tees.

PAULA ABDUL
Those who have grown accustomed and/or annoyed by Abdul’s “American Idol” antics need to take a look back at her “Forever Your Girl” days and recognize why she was one the decade’s most popular imaginary girlfriends.

ANN & NANCY WILSON
Those who might snicker at Ann’s recent, um, healthier appearance clearly forget that during the ’80s she was actually considered by some to the hotter of the Heart duo.
