Morgan Webb's Guiltiest Geek Pleasures
With E3 wreaking worldwide video-game havoc this week, GCD caught up with X-Play's gaming goddess for a check of her nerd license.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Am I aware that this is a badly-acted
soap opera with abysmal special effects? Of course I am. Do I love it
anyway? Yes, and I wear it loud and proud. This show was my first
real foray into sci-fi television and though modern nerds may scoff
at it as cheesy (rightly) and full of plot holes (absolutely), it
will always maintain a special place in my heart.
World of Warcraft
I am one of the 11 million obsessed.
But, this game is huge for a reason: It never ends! You've spent 350
hours to reach the highest level you can attain? Well that's when the
game really gets going with raids, dungeons, and player vs. player
content that never gets old. World of Warcraft isn't a game,
it's a part of my life.
FLCL
FLCL is a 6-ep anime mini-series
about a renegade space alien, a young boy, and the robots that grow
out of his head. It's sheer perfection and I collect anything I can
find related to it. My prize possession? A shot glass with a pink
portrait of the Vespa-riding guitar-wielding heroine, Haruko
Haruharu.
Red Dwarf
If you haven't seen Red Dwarf,
your geek credentials are officially in question. Red Dwarf is
a BBC comedy about a low-class lout (the last known human in the
universe), a prissy hologram, a depressed computer and a cat that
evolved into something resembling James Brown. It's set on an empty
mining ship millions of years in the future and is a must see for
anyone who calls themselves a nerd.
The A-Team
While other little girls pretended to
be princesses, I was pretending to be B.A. Baracus. I used to watch
him create complicated mechanical contraptions with nothing more than
a garage door and a welding torch, and I've been attracted to
technology ever since. Thanks Mr. T!
Go behind the scenes of E3 with X-Play,
weeknights at 6:30 PM ET/PT on G4.
