Legendary Journeys
Re-experience Greek myths in ways the Greeks never intented
With due respect to the recent Clash of the Titans, we
would
have enjoyed that movie a lot more if they’d somehow worked in a Kevin Sorbo
cameo, or if, instead of Perseus, Sam Worthington had played a Warrior
Princess.
For a reminder of why, grab season one of Hercules: The
Legendary Journeys and of Xena: Warrior Princess, both of which emerge
from
out-of-print-ness to re-hit DVD today. The first season of Hercules
found The
Sorbo fighting his usual band of campy gods and mediocre special effects
while
also introducing Xena,
in a three-episode arc, initially as an enemy. But soon
everyone was fighting for the side of goodness and Xena was getting her
own
spin-off show along with her own sidekick, Gabrielle, to develop a
sublimated
lesbian relationship with.
Sadly, this DVD set doesn’t contain the very final
Xena
episode in which, during the very final scene, Gabrielle saves Xena with
a
little mouth-to-mouth action. It also doesn’t seem to include the scene
in
which Xena becomes the third Cylon. Maybe that’s in the bonus features.
