Hospital Clowns
Adult Swim makes you laugh at sick children
The history of television has been filled with numerous
powerful, touching, lovingly-crafted medical dramas.
Childrens Hospital is
not one of them.
The demented fever dream of former Daily Show correspondent Rob Corddry, Childrens
Hospital takes the kind of doctors you see
on shows like Grey’s Anatomy,
ramps up their sex and stupidity—and then sticks them in front of sick
children. Premiering Sunday at 10:30 pm on Adult Swim, the series stars Corddry
as a doctor who paints his face like a clown and insists on treating children
with the healing power of laughter, rather than, say, surgery. The rest of the amazing
comedic ensemble includes Henry “Arthur Fonzarelli” Winkler, Megan “Will
& Grace” Mullally, Rob “Human
Giant” Huebel, Lake “How to Make
It in America” Bell and Nick Offerman, aka
Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation.
The show actually first debuted back in 2008 as a
Webby-award winning online series. Adult Swim will re-air those genius original
episodes before the series segues into freshly commissioned ones. (The new eps
take over on August 22.)
Now that most actual medical dramas are on summer hiatus,
you can think of Childrens Hospital as your
substitute for House.
If House was a sexaholic, face-painted moron.
