G.I. Joe as it ought to be

Five reasons to pick up G.I. Joe: Resolute on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow

When the Cartoon Network debuted G.I. Joe: Resolute this past spring, fans of Hasbro’s “Real American Hero” finally got the Joe ’toon they always wanted to see, thanks to the gritty writing of comic icon Warren Ellis and hyper anime-influenced art.

“What fans responded to most is the fact that Resolute represents an evolution of the franchise in terms of tone and subject matter,” explains director Joaquim Dos Santos, “while at the same time remaining faithful to a lot of the themes that made the original series so memorable.”

Here are the five reasons we came up with why you should pick up G.I. Joe: Resolute when it becomes available on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow:

Joes live and Joes die: While the body count of nameless grunts and Cobra troopers numbers in the triple digits, we also see major players (like Bazooka) stretched out on autopsy tables.

Super-solider soap operas: Break out the Bon-Bons and fuzzy slippers—the heat gets cranked-up on the Duke/Scarlett/Snake-Eyes love triangle!

Explicit Lyrics: No “F-bombs” are dropped in Resolute, but Joes and Cobra speak the way adults would in the heat of battle—blunt, direct and free of all hokiness.

COBRA plays the role: They’re not called a ruthless terrorist organization for nothing, as Cobra Commander—showing he means business—wipes Moscow and its 10 million civilians clean off the map.

Snake-Eyes vs. Storm Shadow…TO THE DEATH: Yes, these two square off once again in an epic ninja battle. And yes, only one walks away breathing oxygen.
