GCD Exclusive Q&A: Fringe’s Lance Reddick

Fringe co-star reveals his secret Star Trek crush!

Whether he’s Charles Widmore’s right-hand man on Lost, or the imposing Agent Broyles on Fringe, which airs its season finale tonight, you get the feeling you shouldn't mess with Lance Reddick. But when GCD spoke with the actor, he couldn’t have been friendlier (the man can act, no doubt).

“People will be stunned by the [Fringe] season finale,” says Reddick. “People will  be on the edge of their seats waiting for the third season to see how it will be resolved.” In the meantime, Reddick, a true fanboy, shared with us his guilty geek pleasures…

The Walking Dead
“My top favorite lately has been The Walking Dead. Someone tried to get me into it two years ago but I kept resisting because I was like, ‘A comic about zombies? Give me a break.’ I would go into the comic book store, pick one up, look at it, put it back down. But then anytime I would bring it up to anybody working in a comic book store they would say, ‘Oh, you got to read it. It's great.’ When I was in Vancouver this past season working on Fringe, I was in the store and I just said, ‘OK, it’s time. I’ll start with one trade.’ And one turned into eleven.”

GCD: You’ve heard about the new AMC version of it...
Reddick:
“Oh yes I did! I put in my bid for a recurring role, trying to get in on that show!”

Tim Drake
“One character that has become my favorite, particularly in the DC universe is Tim Drake. With the return of Bruce Wayne fast approaching, I’m sure they’ll figure out a way for Bruce Wayne to be Batman for decades to come, but I feel like the way Tim Drake is as close to the next Batman as I have ever seen. I just picked up the first trade of Red Robin and I’m lovin’ it. I just like seeing him independent. He’s the only Robin that’s as smart as Bruce and can be kind of as Machiavellian as Bruce.”

Gargoyles
“Believe it or not, I’m a huge fan of that old series from the ’90s, Gargoyles. I’m very disappointed that they decided not to release the second volume of the second season on DVD. You know how in its purest form science fiction is a place for political social commentary? I feel that Gargoyles does that; there’s constantly an undercurrent of social commentary.”

DC Animation
“I’ve got every season of Superman; I’ve got every season of Batman, every season of Batman Beyond and every season of Justice League.”

Star Trek: Voyager
“I’ve got all seven seasons of Star Trek: Voyager. Oh man, I love that show. My girlfriend and I are now in the middle of season five. I’m watching it through it again…I had the biggest crush on Kate Mulgrew.”
