Bounty Hunting Hollywood
Exclusive Interview: Last Man Standing Creator Dan LuVisi
Dan LuVisi's Last Man Standing: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter is the tale of Gabriel, a genetically engineered soldier. He gets framed up A-Team style and thrown in a nine-level prison. With mutant shark people. And a giant bunny with a samurai sword. Who is this guy? GCD caught up with Dan to get the lowdown:
GCD: What's the latest status on the movie?
Dan LuVisi: A week or so ago, LMS was picked up by Paramount Pictures. My producer Scott Aversano and I have been working on the story, making sure we can bring something unique and deep to the movie. A lot of fans believe the story is only Gabriel going after the people who set him up. But there's a lot more to it. That's just the simple synopsis. What really happens once Gabriel goes on that journey spins the entire story upside down and we, the audience, see how messed up this task is going to be. Aside from the story, my producing partners and I have been going to several effect shops, both visual and practical, and putting together our dream team of people we'd love to get on board. We've had some huge and very highly respected teams already show great interest. Once we have the story down, we can hopefully move into the screenplay, and into my favorite part, pre-production and picking a director.
GCD: Will the comic become a regular, continuing title? If so, when can we expect the next one?
DLV: To be honest, I feel like trying to one-up Killbook. I put a lot of time and effort into exploring and explaining the world in the first prologue book. I feel the comic has to be even more complex. I'm brainstorming some ideas now on how we can change that game up, and deliver a more personal and unique experience in the comic version. As for being a regular, continuing title? I don't know yet, but you can expect something big. As for a release date, just like it says at the end of the Killbook: when it's done.
GCD: What's the deal with the rabbit guy?
DLV: Haha, well he, and others, are a type of creature known as a Hybrid. In the story, Armtech, the corporation responsible for creating Gabriel, has dabbed their magic wand into the gene pool and tried to play God. Their intention was to splice animal characteristics, such as strength, speed and more with that of a human. Of course, they really screwed up and created their own Frankenstein monsters. There is a deeper part of that overall story explained in the book, so I don't want to spoil too much. But let's just say things get a hectic once the people of "Amerika" find out about the hybrids, and the dark secret Armtech has been hiding.
