Amanda Tapping’s Guilty Geek Pleasures
The Sanctuary star reveals what gets her geeky side going
You know that whackjob scientist on Fringe? He’s got nothing on Sanctuary’s Helen Magnus. We asked Amanda Tapping, the actress (and exec producer) who deftly brings her life in front of all those green screens, to give us her top guilty geek pleasures.
Midomi iPhone App
“If you’re listening to a song on the
radio,” says Tapping, “and you don’t know what the song is, you can hold the
phone up to it, and it will figure out what the song is. Or if you hum a few
bars into the phone it will figure out what the song is. And it takes you to
iTunes so you can buy the song, or to YouTube where you can see the video.”
Star Trek: The Next Generation
“If I’m flipping and it’s
on, I’ll watch it. When I was doing Stargate we had John de Lancie and Marina
Sirtis on our show and, yeah, I totally geeked out. Marina actually came and had
lunch in my trailer and I was having a total fangirl moment. She was honest
and great and fun and I was, like, ‘Oh … my … god.’ She left the trailer and I
called my twin brother and said, ‘You’re not gonna believe who I just had lunch
with.’”
Alien
“In comes this woman who is so brave and so strong
and so smart and sexy without being, you know, Barbarella. And so I geek out
over that. If I ever met Sigourney Weaver I’d probably faint.”
Sanctuary airs Fridays at 10 pm Eastern on SyFy.
